Dallas Fort Worth International Airport selects Outsight for the world’s largest 3D LiDAR deployment

17 April 2025

DFW Airport selects Outsight for a US$17.2M LiDAR deployment to enhance safety, operations, and passenger flow with Spatial Intelligence.

This groundbreaking initiative at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) represents an unprecedented implementation of advanced sensing technology, positioning the global transportation hub at the forefront of airport innovation and operational excellence.

This large-scale project will provide DFW with real-time Spatial Intelligence across its extensive facilities. With tens of millions of passengers navigating the airport yearly, fast and reliable data is essential to ensure smooth operations, enhance safety, and optimise the passenger journey.

Unlike video-based systems and Wi-Fi solutions, Outsight’s 3D LiDAR-based solution leverages Edge Computing to generate precise, real-time 3D Perception and Localisation data without capturing any image nor phone data.

The results are instant, anonymous insights into people and vehicle flows that allow airport teams to make data-driven decisions immediately–from detecting congestion at security checkpoints to proactively managing crowd dynamics.

Outsight’s Spatial AI software platform is hardware-agnostic and compatible with multiple LiDAR sensor brands, enabling seamless scalability and long-term adaptability. This ensures DFW can continuously evolve its infrastructure with the best available technology, avoiding vendor lock-in and maximising long-term value.

One of the key advantages of LiDAR technology lies in its unmatched precision and reliability. Unlike cameras, LiDAR sensors are unaffected by lighting conditions such as darkness or glare, and they provide accurate 3D measurements even in complex, crowded environments. This makes LiDAR an ideal solution for dynamic and high-traffic spaces like airports, where traditional vision systems often fall short.

The scope and ambition of this deployment underscore DFW’s leadership in adopting Spatial AI to elevate operational performance and public safety. This project exemplifies how LiDAR technology, beyond its origins in autonomous vehicles and mapping, is becoming foundational infrastructure for Smart Airports and broader Smart Mobility initiatives.

Outsight has demonstrated its ability to deliver impactful, large-scale Spatial Intelligence projects across five continents. From major international hubs in Europe and Asia to urban infrastructure projects in North America and the Middle East, Outsight’s technology is already transforming how public spaces are monitored. This global track record highlights not only the robustness of the technology but also the company’s operational excellence and ability to meet the demands of diverse clients and environments.

Outsight’s success stems not only from cutting-edge technology but also from its ability to adapt across regions, scale efficiently, and integrate with local systems. As smart infrastructure expands globally, the demand for precise, privacy-preserving Spatial Intelligence continues to grow–and Outsight is uniquely positioned to meet it.

“This project marks a significant milestone in the adoption of LiDAR-based Spatial Intelligence across US airports,” said Raul Bravo, President, Outsight.  “With large-scale deployments already underway in Asia and Europe, the DFW project confirms that LiDAR-based Spatial Intelligence is becoming a global standard–one that Outsight is proud to lead. We’re honoured to bring this breakthrough technology to one of the world’s busiest airports.”

“We deeply value DFW’s decision to partner with Outsight and look forward to supporting their mission to create a smarter, safer, and more efficient airport. Together, we are setting a new global benchmark in the use of 3D LiDAR and Spatial Intelligence in transportation infrastructure.”

This recognition of the leadership and unique value created by Outsight follows a recent accolade from Gartner, that featured Outsight as an emerging leader in the Spatial Computing market.
