International Horticultural Expos are beautiful events that showcase nature, are enjoyed by millions of visitors, and leave environmentally positive legacies for the host city’s residents. On 19 October 2021, organisers from forthcoming AIPH approved Expos will be presenting their progress reports. This free online conference is an excellent opportunity to learn more about upcoming Expos as well as hosting or being involved with an International Horticultural Expo and network with Expo organisers, city representatives interested in hosting an expo, urban developers, AIPH members, NGOs, international city and environmental organisations and suppliers to major events.
Millions are spent developing these international spectacles that can stimulate the development of entire cities and transform the international reputation of hosting regions. Each Exhibition attracts many international participants and millions of visitors and lasts up to six months, with sites ranging from the smallest of 25 hectares to the largest of 500 hectares or more. Every Expo is carefully regulated, steered, and monitored by AIPH.
From now until 2027 AIPH has approved Expos in China, Turkey, Qatar, the Netherlands, South Korea, and Japan. The following Expos will be submitting their progress reports on 19 October:

CIVITAS Forum 2021: Smart routes towards climate-neutral cities
The 18th edition of the CIVITAS Initiative’s flagship event on sustainable transport will take place on 20-21 October 2021 in Aachen, Germany, bringing together experts and practitioners from across the continent to explore the role of transport in paving the way towards building climate-neutral cities by- and for citizens in Europe.

The European Forum on Disaster Risk Reduction 2021 (The EFDRR 2021), the main regional gathering of the disaster risk reduction community in Europe and Central Asia organised by the UN, will bring together representatives from 55 Member States at all government levels as well as stakeholders and partners across Europe and Central Asia.
The event is hosted by the Government of Portugal and will take place on 24-26 November 2021 in a hybrid format. The forum will feature more than 30 events and include 300 speakers from Europe and Central Asia, exchanging experiences on successful practices and innovative approaches to prevent, reduce and manage disaster risks.
Across the 3 days at the EFDRR, participants will have the opportunity to:
- Learn from experts and participate at high-level talks with speakers during ten dedicated sessions including on systemic risks, governance, climate change, science-policy and financing. The full programme is available here.

The 2021 European Forum gathers representatives of 55 Member States at ministerial, regional, national and local levels as well as stakeholders and partners from Europe and Central Asia committed to reducing disaster risk and adapting to climate change.
The 2021 EFDRR will have key outcomes, including:
