Making Cities Resilient 2030
May 6 @ 10:00 am – 11:30 am

The Making Cities Resilient 2030 (MCR2030) initiative responds to the growing need to boost resilience at the local level. Crises such as COVID-19 and climate change remind us that managing disaster risk is everyone’s business, in which local governments play an instrumental role. Building resilience of local governments through robust risk governance structures and processes is a critical step to ensure that impacts are mitigated and measures are taken at the most localised and disaggregated level.

The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) Regional Office for Europe, in partnership with ICLEI Europe – Local Governments for Sustainability, invite you to this regional webinar, which sets in motion a decade for city resilience through the implementation of the MCR2030 initiative across the Europe and Central Asia region.

This event brings to light cities at various stages of their resilience journey. The city experiences aim to showcase how, through robust risk knowledge, planning and implementation, city resilience can be strengthened in a spirit of peer learning and partnership central to the MCR2030 initiative.

RUGGEDISED Final Event & Recharge Earth

RuggedisedThe EU-funded project RUGGEDISED Smart Cities and Communities is hosting its final event next 6 September 2022 in Rotterdam (The Netherlands), followed by the Recharge Earth Energy Transition Conference (7-8 September), which will also feature RUGGEDISED best practices. The entire event takes place in the RUGGEDISED demonstration area, Heart of South, at the Rotterdam Ahoy Conference Centre.

The event will showcase the lessons from the RUGGEDISED project, where the cities of Rotterdam, Glasgow, Umeå, Parma, Brno and Gdansk have worked with researchers and private industry on pushing urban transition through Smart City developments and methods.

The first day of the final event is dedicated to learning, discussing and exchanging views based on the work done in RUGGEDISED. In sessions that will require engagement and openness from all participants, RUGGEDISED will invite attendees on a journey to shape how we will create buildings, districts and entire cities in support of climate neutrality. The programme will include sessions on ‘The Lighthouse Stories’, ‘Innovation capacity in European Smart Cities’, ‘How to set up city-led urban innovation systems?’, and ‘The Legacy of RUGGEDISED’, among others. There will also be different networking opportunities throughout the day. The event will close with study tours in Rotterdam to learn more about the RUGGEDISED innovations.

On 7-8 September, professionals involved in the energy transition will convene at the Recharge Earth conference, where RUGGEDISED will also share its best practices. The conference will include high-level political speakers and engaging plenary session. Important themes will be discussed in an international programme with RUGGEDISED partners putting special focus on how digitalisation and a social perspective can help support the energy transition throughout Europe.
