The 5th annual GIB (Global Infrastructure Basel) Sustainable Infrastructure Summit, to be held in Basel, Switzerland, from 27-28 May 2015, will bring together over 300 key players in the field of sustainable infrastructure development and financing.

Representatives from the financing and infrastructure industries, municipalities, academics and NGOs will come together to discuss questions including: What can be done to foster private financing in sustainable infrastructure investment? What kinds of policies and partnerships need to be introduced and adopted in order to incentivise increased investment in this field? Why are sustainable infrastructure projects so difficult to structure? How can the project pipeline of sustainable and resilient infrastructure be increased?

Due to the increasing importance of infrastructure for a growing world population and its relevance for the competitiveness of cities and regions the infrastructure topic has never been more prominent on the agenda of world leaders and international organisations than it is today.

Well-designed infrastructure, taking sustainability criteria into consideration, has the potential to form the backbone of sustainable development. It is of vital importance that city and industry leaders, as well as investors, understand sustainable infrastructure in order to realise the full range of opportunities the development of this market has to offer.

The 5th GIB Sustainable Infrastructure Summit will stimulate a unique, multi-stakeholder dialogue and create fertile ground for innovative ideas, knowledge sharing and defining concrete steps on how to move forward.

Under the title “Financing Sustainable and Resilient Infrastructure: Transforming Momentum into Real Impact”, this year’s summit will offer interactive workshops, investors’ advice on how to structure bankable projects, policy plenary sessions, a project marketplace, where project developers will present their infrastructure projects, and a unique matchmaking platform to schedule bilateral meetings among the attendees to make the most out of their participation.
