Smart, safe, and sustainable mobility for all

01 February 2024

In an era marked by urbanisation, environmental concerns, and technological advancements, the global landscape of mobility faces multifaceted challenges. The imperative to address urgent climate issues, navigate construction complexities, and enhance road safety underscores the pressing need for innovative solutions. While Intertraffic Amsterdam is recognised for its role in showcasing mobility advancements, this narrative delves into the broader spectrum of challenges that societies around the world grapple within the realm of mobility.

As societies evolve, so do the responsibilities of road operators. The advent of digitalisation has ushered in a transformative shift in traffic management, with roadside equipment becoming increasingly interconnected, sustainability measures gaining prominence and the demand for tailored route guidance on the rise. This evolution necessitates a comprehensive approach to address issues such as traffic flow, smart and sustainable traffic guidance, real-time information services, pollution-sensitive traffic management, monitoring systems, toll collection, enforcement mechanisms, and advanced technologies like AI sensors for intersections.

Sustainable urban mobility takes center stage in addressing the challenges of our time. The emphasis is on fostering collaboration within ecosystems, developing successful Mobility as a Service (MaaS) applications, ensuring software interoperability, and creating digital infrastructures for MaaS. Topics range from parking in MaaS offerings to sustainable and inclusive mobility, public-private frameworks for sustainability goals, and lessons learned from micromobility pilots and mobility hubs. Workshops and panel discussions provide insights into cycling and transit solutions, bicycle-oriented infrastructure, and strategies to stimulate active travel.

Smart and sustainable infrastructure, along with the utilisation of AI for smart asset management, are integral components of the evolving mobility ecosystem. The principles of software interoperability ensure that cities have a range of choices in digital infrastructure. Topics such as smart cycling infrastructures, smart road marking, and digitalisation for improved asset management are discussed, empowering road operators to proactively address the construction of secure, future-proof roads.

In essence, the mobility challenges faced by the world extend beyond the confines of any single event. The intersection of digitalisation, sustainability, safety, and technological innovation forms the intricate web that road operators, policymakers, and technology providers must navigate to create a seamless, accessible, and sustainable mobility landscape for all.

The upcoming edition of Intertraffic Amsterdam, held in Amsterdam from April 16-19 will be the biggest to date and will see the return in full force of the mobility & traffic technology ecosystem. On the agenda are 110 knowledge sessions in the Intertraffic Summit & Demonstration Programme. With over 35,000 professional attendees and 900+ exhibitors taking part in, the event will connect leaders from the most innovative public and private organisations to move mobility towards a better future.
