Juganu showcases its latest 5G and smart cities solutions

22 March 2022

Israeli tech company Juganu showcased its latest 5G and smart city developments earlier this month during an event where it hosted a delegation that included leaders from Qualcomm, Nokia, Abdi, and the Brazilian government.

Alongside Fábio Faria, Brazil’s Minister of Communications, Sanjeet Pandit, global head of smart cities and digital transformation at Qualcomm, Igor Calvet, president of ABDI, Luiz Tonisi, CEO of Qualcomm in Latam, Wilson Cardoso, CTO Nokia in Latam, and Jefferson Cheriegate, São José dos Campos Technological Park, Juganu displayed its capabilities and product solutions to promote its vision of ‘full connectivity’.

These include metaverse integrations, the large-scale use of electric and smart vehicles, best-in-class distributed public Wi-Fi & 5G access, as well as the countless number of AI apps that Juganu will enable by connecting streetlights to smart communications such as traffic and parking management, public safety, monitoring carbon emissions and maintaining citizens privacy.

“We are extremely excited to have reached this moment where we can now see the company’s vision becoming a reality,” said Eran Ben-Shmuel, CEO and Co-founder of Juganu.

“International corporations, and leaders from various states and authorities across the globe understand the importance of the visionary technology developed by Juganu, and understand that the correct deployment of wireless communications and 5G is what will facilitate implementation of future technologies enabling us to live comfortably, efficiently and support sustainability.”

Juganu develops and manufactures end-to-end platforms for smart cities, campuses, and gated communities, combining apps and connectivity in public and commercial spaces and conjoins them within public lighting utilities.

The platform also uses data from streetlights together with communications systems – including 5G – for broadband data transmission, a variety of sensors, and internet of everything (IoE) apps as a basis for smart city infrastructures.

To date, the firm’s smart platform has been deployed across more than 20 countries, including Mexico, Brazil, Guatemala, the US (Philadelphia, Arlington, San Diego), Greece, and Israel.

Last October, Juganu announced a project for deploying smart city infrastructure in Dallas, Texas.

As part of this project the company will connect 40,000 households so that the residents can have a robust communications connection almost everywhere across the city.

The technology has also been developed with individual safety in mind, as each light will change its colour in the event of an emergency call, so that the lighting will be able to guide first responders to the precise location of a citizen in need.

In Dallas, 28 percent of households are not connected to the communications network and the city has one of the highest crime rates in the US.

Qualcomm itself has deployed Juganu’s solution at its company headquarters in California.

Sanjeet Pandit, Senior Director, Business Development and Head of Smart Cities, Qualcomm Technologies said: “The Juganu Digital World platform aims to foster the development of smart cities by providing a comprehensive IoT solution embedded in a smart lighting product.

“We are proud to work with Juganu to further enable cities to become smarter and more connected using our cutting-edge technologies.”
