The World Urban Campaign, UN-Habitat’s global coalition of public, private and civil society partners that seeks to put cities at the heart of the development agenda, unveiled itsManifesto for Cities today at the World Urban Forum in Naples, Italy.

“For 25 years of my career I have been trying to mainstream the urban agenda and make cities the central issue,” said Nicholas You, Chair of the World Urban Campaign. “I think we are on the verge of achieving this but we must have a Global Urban Agenda that makes cities central to discussions on all matters and this manifesto sets out the key principles and directions needed to achieve this.”

At their last Steering Committee meeting, the World Urban Campaign partners agreed to contribute to the Habitat III Conference in 2016 by engaging the international community, public, private and social partners to contribute to the new Global Urban Agenda through aManifesto for Cities.

“Urbanisation can actually have a really positive impact on cities,” said Matt Bennion, Director of Buildings, Global Business Line, Arcadis. “Our job is to harness this and make sure growth is equitable. I think that the manifesto is very clear that neither the private nor public sector have a monopoly on ideas.”
