As part of efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the City of San Diego is ramping up the electrification of mobility.

Along with increasing the number of charging outlets and transitioning municipal fleet vehicles away from fossil fuels, the city has also expanded its ‘Beach Bug’ electric shuttle service.

Alyssa Muto, Director of the city’s Sustainability and Mobility Department, said: “San Diego is in the top 10 cities in the US for conversion to EVs in private households – additionally we have mandates and requirements coming from the State of California that require all of our fleet vehicles to transition within the next couple of years.”

Speaking on the sidelines of the recent Cities Today Institute City Leadership Forum in San Diego, Muto explained what the shift to electric entails.
