A further nine start-ups have graduated from a govtech accelerator programme run by CivStart.
CivStart supports early-stage, innovative technology start-ups that focus on solving critical problems faced by local governments and communities. Their primary mission is to help start-ups develop and scale solutions that improve civic infrastructure, services, and processes, ultimately making government more efficient, transparent, and responsive to citizens’ needs.
Nearly all of the companies involved reported significant growth over the 24-month period, receiving support from CivStart on mentorship, curriculum, focus groups, pitch opportunities, fundraising support, and more.
“CivStart has been an invaluable partner as we’ve navigated our market expansion into serving the public sector,” said David Helene, Founder and CEO of Beam, one of the start-ups that participated. “From helping us navigate the nuances of the government sales motion to supporting the development of trusted advisors and early government partners, the CivStart team has been a consistent and trusted resource to us that has been critical to our ability to grow our footprint and the impact of our work.”
The start-ups involved in the programme include:
- Beam: Provides an end-to-end platform designed to help nonprofits, state, and local governments manage various social service programmes.
- Cloud Driven Solutions (C.D.S.): A technology company offering cloud-based solutions, including software development, IT consulting, and cloud infrastructure management.
- Enpira: Provides data analytics and software solutions aimed at optimising energy efficiency and management, particularly for utilities and large enterprises.
- GridMatrix: Focuses on traffic analytics and intelligent transport systems, providing real-time data to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion.
- Kaizen: Provides software solutions to enhance digital experiences for residents. Their platform offers tools for managing parks and recreation, websites, permits, licensing, and citizen engagement.
- Polimorphic: Offers AI-powered solutions for local governments to streamline communication, automate processes, and enhance resident engagement.
- The Equity Brain Trust: It is dedicated to promoting diversity and inclusion, offering advisory services to help companies build equitable workplaces.
- Thirdline: Provides analytics software designed for government ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems. Their platform monitors financial operations, audits, and segregation of duties across various departments like finance, IT, and internal audits.
- ThruGreen: A company working on traffic signal optimisation and smart city technology, aiming to improve traffic efficiency and reduce emissions.
New focus on AI
A new cohort will begin in September and will now run over a more intensive 12-month period with a focus on AI in government. Now in partnership with the National League of Cities (NLC), the accelerator will also benefit from the association’s direct access and understanding of municipal technology needs and challenges.
