Lime has reached one billion rides worldwide, marking a major milestone for the shared micromobility sector.
“Every single one of these billion rides represents a step toward a more sustainable and equitable future for cities,” said Wayne Ting, CEO of Lime.
Founded in 2017, Lime operates a mix of e-scooters and e-bikes across more than 30 countries and five continents. The company’s growth has coincided with cities’ increasing focus on reducing car dependency, cutting emissions, and redesigning streets for more space-efficient transport options.
Lime said the milestone reflects a cultural shift where shared micromobility has moved from novelty to necessity, describing the total as “a billion coffee runs, date nights, commutes, grocery hauls, park meet-ups and ‘let’s take the long way home’ rides.”
The firm emphasised that its mission goes beyond providing an alternative mode of travel.
“We’re building a future where transportation is shared, affordable and carbon-free–to make cities and the people who live in them more mobile and less reliant on cars,” the company said. Each trip, it added, contributes to cleaner air, quieter streets, and more connected communities.
Lime’s vehicles have evolved to meet growing rider expectations and regulatory standards. Its latest models, including the LimeBike and LimeGlider, are designed to improve comfort, stability and safety through better suspension, enhanced braking, and integrated technology.
The company has also expanded partnerships with cities, integrating its systems into local transport networks and using shared data to support sustainable planning.
“As we celebrate this milestone, we’re not slowing down,” Lime said. “A billion journeys later, we’re still inspired by every one of you who made it happen. Thank you for being part of the ride.”
Ting said the company plans to use this momentum to push deeper into markets where micromobility can have the greatest impact on reducing car use. “This is just the beginning,” he said, adding that Lime’s next phase will focus on expanding shared, affordable, and carbon-free transport options while helping cities meet their climate and liveability goals.
