Sensoneo helps to manage waste smarter in 35 countries

31 May 2019

Sensoneo is a global supplier of smart enterprise-grade waste management solutions that enable clients to manage waste more efficiently, more effectively and with greater respect for the environment. Since 2014, this Slovakia-based company has managed to grow to 35 countries across five continents.

Waste and finding ways of optimising the management of its collection and processing are some of the biggest challenges of our time. Since the population is becoming more and more centralised in cities, producing an ever-growing amount of waste, its management is becoming an extremely important topic–not only in regard to the operation of cities and quality of life within them, but also in regard to environmental and financial circumstances. All these challenges have motivated Sensoneo to build an integrated waste management system that would maximise operational efficiency and enable cities to bring citizens a brand new level of service.

How does the Sensoneo solution work?

Sensoneo is redefining the way waste is managed. The solution combines in-house developed smart IoT sensors that are able to monitor any type of waste in any size of bin with sophisticated software providing data-driven decision making and optimisation of waste collection routes, frequencies and vehicle loads.

What do the system features provide to cities?

The Sensoneo system enables cities to completely understand the waste in the city. The system has the power to become the ultimate source for any waste-related decision the city makes. For example, our tools are able to evaluate the entire bin infrastructure in the city in terms of density, efficiency and cost, and automatically suggest amendments. Our Smart Route Planning enables the collection of waste on demand–the operators can decide which bins they want to collect (e.g. all glass waste with a fill-level of 70 percent and above) and the system creates an automated route plan navigation via the shortest and safest route.

The system automatically picks the best vehicle that should be used to maximise utilisation, and the plan shows how many rounds they will do, how long it will take, how many people they need and also when exactly they will arrive to particular stands. Via Sensoneo, cities can also check the actual pick up time per each bin and verify the proof of service of their suppliers. Our analytics enable cities to identify areas with highest production of waste, or streets that are over or under utilised in terms of bin capacity. Cities can also identify areas where the ratio between mixed/general/ waste and separated waste is very negative and launch an information campaign for that specific part of the city.

What does it change for citizens?

The solution ensures more efficient waste collection resulting in less cars, less noise, and less traffic. Citizens therefore benefit from an improved environment and relieved traffic congestion. Thanks to the Citizen app, which is completely free, citizens are informed about the nearest available empty bin– they can check its current fill-level, dedicated type of waste and get directions to it. The app also enables citizens to be more environmentally responsible. By providing real-time feedback, citizens can help reduce overflowing and messy bins, making their city greener, cleaner and free of litter. Via a simple click, they can directly inform the operator about any inconvenience near the bins or stands without the need to complain on the city’s social networks. The information, including the GPS position and a picture, goes directly to the operator who can immediately act.
