New tools for multimodal transport planning
16 June 2025
United under the brand Umovity, global mobility leaders PTV Group and Econolite are advancing a holistic approach to enhance mobility—centered on safety, intelligence, and sustainability.
At the UITP Summit 2025 in Hamburg, they will present their cutting-edge portfolio for modern, efficient public transportation.
Meeting the demands of modern mobility
Public transportation is under mounting pressure: passengers expect accessibility and reliability, operators pursue economic sustainability, and policymakers demand eco-friendly, inclusive solutions. At the same time, all stakeholders face the urgent need to reduce costs and manage spending.
At Booth A3252, Hall A3, Umovity will demonstrate how its integrated software solutions respond to these challenges—delivering efficient, cost-effective services for both users and operators.
Proven tools and new innovations
At the core of Umovity’s showcase are flagship solutions like PTV Visum and PTV Vissim—globally recognized tools for public transport planning and network modeling. These applications enable classic demand or passenger flow analyses and help address key planning challenges such as:
- How can your public transport route network be optimized to better reflect passenger demand?
- How can ticketing and automated passenger count data be leveraged for strategic planning?
- How can Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems be further optimized for efficiency and reliability?
- How can autonomous vehicles complement existing public transport services?
- How can C-ITS prioritization enhance transit flow?
- How can station design improve pedestrian friendliness and safety?
These capabilities are seamlessly supported by PTV Hub, a cloud-based collaboration platform launched in late 2024. Visitors at the Umovity booth will discover how the platform’s intuitive dashboards make it easier for planners to visualize and share results—internally or with the public—bringing greater transparency and collaboration to complex transport planning.
Also featured is PTV Lines, a lightweight, web-based tool for the rapid design and optimization of transit routes, timetables, and connections. Requiring no in-depth software expertise, it enables users to make impactful adjustments with just a few clicks. Visitors can also explore the latest features that incorporate passenger demand into the planning process.
A holistic vision for urban mobility
Umovity places strong emphasis on integrated, multimodal mobility systems. Its visionary concept of Dynamic Multimodal Network Management marks a paradigm shift—uniting planning, operations, and decision-making across all transport modes within a single, unified ecosystem.
“We’re ushering in a new era where multimodal transportation planning and operations converge into a unified ecosystem,” says Christian U Haas, CEO of Econolite and PTV Group.
“Our vision is a Dynamic Multimodal Network Management system that integrates planning, management, and decision-support tools—empowering cities to optimize all modes of mobility, from public transit and cycling to shared mobility and, soon, autonomous and connected vehicles.”
Umovity is actively working on pilot projects with cities to bring this vision to life. In late 2024, PTV Group and the State Office for Roads, Bridges, and Waterways (LSBG) in Hamburg launched a strategic partnership to develop an integrated, sustainable transport management system. A key focus of this collaboration is the development of a state-of-the-art, cross-modal transport management system. At UITP 2025, Umovity will provide in-depth insights into this pioneering collaboration and the progress toward dynamic multimodal management.
Integrated ITS and real-time operations
Supporting this strategy are advanced solutions from both brands. Econolite’s Centracs® provides flexible ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) management, traffic control, and data sharing in one robust ATMS platform. Complementing this is PTV Optima, which leverages real-time ITS data to deliver predictive traffic management and decision support across all mobility modes—including private vehicles, public transport, and shared mobility.
These tools empower transport operators to continuously monitor traffic conditions, anticipate future scenarios, and improve operational responsiveness and passenger experience.
