Digital transformation in a new age: The quest for interoperability. Where do we stand?
Jun 23 @ 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Digital transformation in a new age: The quest for interoperability. Where do we stand?

How would we structure emergency coordination, situational awareness and public announcements if we could work across networks and devices? Interoperability is more than just hooking up network infrastructure. It’s about enabling people across agencies and organizations to reach the right person and communicate when they need to, how they need to.

But effective interoperability won’t be possible until all carriers, device manufacturers, platforms and solution providers commit to enabling it. In this webinar, our experts discuss where we are in that decades-long quest. Join us to learn what it will take to get there.

We’ll talk about:

  • Barriers to interoperability
  • Data-sharing solutions in the post-pandemic world
  • Verizon Interoperability Coalition: Uniform standards
  • Advanced device-to-device technologies that can help enable interoperability across all networks

You will explore how urban centers enable digital transformation during this three-day live virtual short course, using numerous technologies from robotics to the Internet of Things (IoT) to artificial intelligence (AI). In addition, you will learn design thinking principles applicable to prototyping of new experiences using digital technologies at both human and urban scale in related topics, including:

  • How to design integrations of sensor and actuators architectures learn the fundamentals of IoT & AI to develop data-driven applications.
  • How big data analytics can be of use to decode the behavior of large-scale systems and urban dynamics.
  • Obtain a primer on big data visualisations and communication principles for both scientific and general consumption purposes.

 Get to know “senseable cities”

According to Professor Ratti, in the midst of rapid urbanisation, the concept of “senseable cities” that utilise technology to better respond to people is emerging. “As a result, many aspects of urban life are being rapidly transformed: From energy to waste management, from mobility to water distribution, from city planning to citizen engagement,” explains Professor Ratti.

In Designing Tomorrow’s Cities, you’ll explore how these transformations are being made in cities worldwide and how you can join the senseable cities revolution. With Professor Ratti’s expert guidance, you’ll feel more prepared than ever before to help improve people’s lives.

UAS Stuttgart Master programme Smart City Solutions
Sep 1 all-day

Becoming an expert in sustainable, livable and smart cities

Smart city is a city vision that has been acknowledged and promoted as a new paradigm around the world for growing cities and declining rural areas. The development and implementation of Smart city strategies requires interdisciplinary knowledge in a variety of adjacent fields. We will prepare you for these challenges with the new Master programme Smart City Solutions (SCS) at the University of Applied Sciences Stuttgart!

Insights into Global Challenges

The international master Smart City Solutions prepares planners, architects, engineers, economists, ecologists, sociologists, entrepreneurs and graduates of related disciplines for implementing smart city technology. You will gain insights about global challenges in urban development strategies like climate change, extreme weather events, limited planetary resources and water shortages amongst others. SCS covers eight key aspects of smart city solutions and processes: smart governance, smart mobility, smart energy, smart resources, smart citizen, smart urbanism, smart buildings and smart infrastructure. You will learn how to manage these challenges with data-based decision support tools. In our program we combine modules of three existing faculties of the University of Applied Sciences; we also collaborate with the Institute for Applied Research.

Learning by Doing

In Master Smart City Solutions you will get to apply the gathered theoretical knowledge in a Case Study project during the study programme. It will be a living lab project in collaboration with real city stakeholders.

Master Smart City Solutions

The consecutive, interdisciplinary programme aims at international professionals with a first academic degree and professional experience.

Lectures are held from Friday to Monday, which allows students to work parallel to their studies. It is possible to study full-time (3 semesters) or part-time (5 semesters).

The medium of instruction is English.

The degree qualification is Master of Engineering (M. Eng.).

There is an option to gain a dual degree in MBA at our partner LJMU, United Kingdom.

How does sustainable mobility look like in the future?

From 14 to 16 September 2021, the multimodal innovation platform Hypermotion Frankfurt will bring together all modes of transport to discuss this question. Experts, innovators and pioneering thinkers from the automotive, transport and logistics fields engage in discussions aimed at driving the energy and mobility transition. These themes will be in focus: Urban logistics and mobility concepts, alternative drive technology, hyperloop technology and intelligent supply chains.

This year’s participants can look forward to three high-profile conferences. The smc – Smart Mobility + Green Cities conference serves as a future forum for multimodal concepts and sustainable mobility in networked cities and regions. At the scalex – Supply Chain + Logistics Excellence conference, the focus is on the topics of resilience, innovation and performance. On 16 September 2021, the Hyperloop Conference will take place for the very first time. This conference brings international players in the hyperloop ecosystem together to discuss the latest developments in this revolutionary technology.

Another new feature this year: Hypermotion is being held alongside Automechanika Frankfurt, an event where everything revolves around the automotive service industry, creating promising synergies. Danilo Kirschner, Show Director of Hypermotion Frankfurt: “Developers from the fields of mobility and logistics will be brought together with users from the automotive aftermarket. This creates valuable synergies for participants of both events for topics such as alternative drive systems, fleet management, IoT systems and the creation and optimisation of resilient international supply chains, to name but a few.”

Hypermotion Frankfurt 2021 is taking place as a hybrid trade fair. The exhibition and conferences will be held in person on the exhibition grounds and supplemented with an array of digital features. Danilo Kirschner detailed some of the advantages: “With this concept, we are able to place the in-person programme in Frankfurt online as well. Exhibitors present their products in their own profiles, the supporting programme is streamed live, people can communicate via chat and video, and digital matchmaking generates contact recommendations tailored to each participant.”
