Baltimore has appointed technology and cybersecurity executive TJ Mayotte as the city’s new Chief Information Officer (CIO).
Mayotte will lead the city’s Information Technology Office, which manages the digital infrastructure supporting municipal agencies and programmes that expand access to technology, including digital skills training, free public Wi-Fi and device access for residents.
“I’m excited to have TJ join my administration at such an important time for our city, as we continue to invest in digital equity and explore cutting-edge technology solutions to improve service delivery for our residents,” Brandon Scott, Mayor of Baltimore, said.
“TJ is an innovator and a cybersecurity expert who brings years of experience to this role. We’re grateful to have him leading the incredible team in our Information Technology Office as they continue to embody innovation and service.”
Mayotte brings more than two decades of experience in government technology and cybersecurity leadership. He previously served as CIO for Howard County Government in Maryland, where he led a team of 100 technology professionals and oversaw a technology budget of about US$50 million.
Earlier roles include Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for Anne Arundel County Government and senior cybersecurity and risk leadership positions at companies including Synchrony, Capital One and HealthEquity.
Before entering government technology leadership, Mayotte served as an officer in the United States Navy.
