Applications open for the 2016 Guangzhou Awards

The 3rd Guangzhou Award is receiving applications and is encouraging entries from those cities that are improving infrastructure and public services, and putting into place participatory planning and good governance, partnerships, technology, resilience, social inclusion and gender equality.

Five winning cities will take home US$20,000 each during the official ceremony to be held in November. Winners will also be invited to attend side events including seminars and exhibitions on urban innovation.

During the previous edition, 259 submissions were received from 177 cities in 57 countries around the world. After careful deliberation, an independent jury selected the winners for the 2nd Guangzhou Award, including Antioquia of Colombia, Bristol of the UK, Christchurch of New Zealand, Dakar of Senegal, and Hangzhou of China.  The publication: A Collection of Shortlisted Initiatives of the 2nd Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation offers an insight into the cases and latest trends in urban innovation.

To submit an application fill in the registration and application forms and send them to info@guangzhouaward.org

• 30 June 2016 – Deadline for registration (expression of interest)
• 31 August 2016 – Deadline for receipt of submissions
• September 2016 – Evaluation by the Technical Committee
• October 2016 – Short-listed initiatives will be notified of their selection
• November 2016 – Final evaluation by the jury and award ceremony

The Guangzhou Award is co-sponsored by United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), the World Association of the Major Metropolises (Metropolis), and the City of Guangzhou. The award aims to recognise innovation in improving social, economic and environmental sustainability in cities and regions and, in so doing, to advance the prosperity and life quality of their citizens.

Besides the five awards, the Organising Committee of the Guangzhou Award also intends to recognise one of the short-listed initiatives for its popularity with the public.
