With a third of India’s population still lacking access to electricity, there has never been a more important time to participate in POWER-GEN India & Central Asia Exhibition & Conference, which will be held at New Delhi’s Pragati Maidan, on the 14-16 May 2015. Taking place alongside its sister event DistribuTECH India, these events represent the only forum in India that covers clean and efficient power generation from both a conventional and renewable energy perspective, as well as how to effectively transmit and distribute electricity.

Under the theme Re-energizing India’s Power Sector, the event will debate key issues affecting India’s electricity sector, while its world-class exhibition floor will provide pioneering and practical solutions to achieving a low-carbon, efficient and reliable power system.

A third of India’s 1.3 billion population still lack access to electricity and as the world’s largest democracy seeks to raise its profile on the world stage this must be addressed. To tackle this critical issue, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has an ambitious plan to bring an uninterrupted power supply to every household in the country by the end of the decade.

Coal is the traditional backbone of India’s power generation sector, and since coming to power in May, Modi has sought to address the many issues that have thwarted attempts to transition its installed coal-based capacity from subcritical to the more efficient and less polluting supercritical.

Most importantly Modi’s plan for universal access to electricity is through the greater deployment of renewable energies. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy boosted the target of the National Solar Mission from 20 GW to 100 GW by 2022. Modi also recently reaffirmed his country’s commitment to wind and biogas, as well as traditional hydroelectric power. Under the new government, India has clearly set itself on a course to build an efficient, clean energy-based electric power system.

POWER-GEN India & Central Asia and DistribuTECH India 2015 will provide an unrivalled opportunity to network with over 7,000 industry professionals from more than 45 countries and to benefit from the numerous business opportunities that exist as India builds and modernises its electricity sector.
